Nunavut Public Library Services

Nunavut’s public libraries are safe, welcoming environments open to all regardless of affiliation, appearance, belief, gender, preference, origin or ability. Our mission is to help our patrons access the information they need to create opportunities for personal growth and benefit. We provide our patrons with information which enriches their lives as Nunavummiut and as citizens of a global community. We strive to create community based programs which contribute to the social, economic and cultural well-being of Nunavut’s communities by providing reliable and authoritative information encouraging respectful and critical discussion and debate, building our collective capacity to grow and change.

Nunavut Public Library Services (NPLS) provides materials, technical support and programing resources for the 11 community libraries in the Public Library System to promote these outcomes. We provide guidance and professional expertise to help Nunavut’s communities make the most of the opportunities provided by public libraries. Nunavut’s public libraries offer a broad range of books, magazines, DVDs and other services to patrons. Other services include technology training, children’s programs, free Internet access, reference, screenings, inter-library loans, and seasonal special events promoting literacy and Nunavut’s culture.

NPLS also has a website at which provides an extensive list of community and online resources as well as access to our Online Public Access Catalog and several proprietary databases. Patrons wishing to access the NPLS Catalog directly may do so through Nunavut Public Libary.
