Nunavut Commissioner's Awards
Below are the categories for the Commissioner’s Awards. The awards are to recognize people who have distinguished themselves by acts of
volunteer / community service, bravery, youth recognition, special skills and humanitarian.
Nomination of Awards
Nominations for awards can be made by residents of the Nunavut Territory. The Hamlets and MLA’s offices have been supportive and are available to assist.
To be considered, nominees for the award must be recommended to the Commissioner by two or more people. They will be required to submit a nomination form available on-line.
Award for Volunteer / Community Service
To recognize citizens who have given significant personal time and efforts to help non-profit community service organizations or their fellow citizens. The award consists of a certificate.
Award for Bravery
Though residents of Canada’s Nunavut Territory are entitled to the same awards for acts of bravery as people in other parts of Canada,
some dramatic acts of courage in the Nunavut Territory do not gain national recognition. Therefore, the Commissioner of Nunavut instituted
an Award for Bravery, for people in the Nunavut Territory who voluntarily risked their lives to an extraordinary degree in saving or
attempting to save the lives of other people, or who voluntarily sacrificed themselves in an heroic manner for the safety of others.
Recipients are presented with a certificate.

Award for Youth Recognition
