 NOTICE OF PROPOSED CHANGES TO OFFICIAL PLACE NAMES AND THE DESIGNATION OF NEW OFFICIAL PLACE NAMES NEAR KIMMIRUT, NUNAVUT.

Submission Summary:

 On May 20, 2008 the Inuit Heritage Trust Incorporated submitted 134 place names for designation as official place names by the Government of Nunavut. The named locations are found on National Topographic Series Map 25K (Lake Harbour). The proposal requests official status for 100 new Inuktitut names, and conversion to Inuktitut, or corrections to the Inuktitut, of 34 existing official place names. These names are listed below.

Public Comments:

 Persons and organizations wishing to comment on the proposed name changes contained in the submission may do so in writing in any of Nunavut’s official languages to the Nunavut Geographic Names Program to the attention of the Nunavut Toponymist, or by e-mail to jsarpinak@gov.nu.ca. Comments must be received within 45 days of the date of this public notice to be considered in the deliberations of the Nunavut Geographic Names Committee. All comments must include the name, address and telephone number of the commenter and should include a concise statement of the basis of the comment and the relevant facts upon which it is based.

DEADLINE FOR WRITTEN COMMENTS: September 15th, 2008 at 5:00 PM EST.

The submission and selected Toponymic records are on file and may be inspected at the office of the Nunavut Geographic Names Program in Igloolik any time between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
